Autumn 2023

A new page on the Scott Trial, with thanks for the help from local organisers of the trial in developing this material.

A new page to showcase the Marske Choir – including Christmas videos from recent years, with thanks to the organisers of the Marske Choir.

Pages on church history augmented and restructured, including incorporation of photos of Marske silverware from Ripon Cathedral.

Two new pages on New Forest (the area between Marske, Arkengarthdale and Ravensworth), and Marske and World War Two, including the crash of a Blenheim aircraft of Skelton Moor. Thanks to the Imperial War Museum and National Archives for the use of images, and to local contributors for help in developing and improving the text.

Watercolour paintings and photographs by David Morgan Rees added to Overview, History, Hutton family, Feldom, Activities, Editorial Policy, References, and Sitemap pages. David Morgan Rees and Richmondshire Museum are especially thanked for allowing the use of these images.

Spring 2023

New pages added on the connections between the church and Camerons brewery in Hartlepool, and the history behind Temperance Farm.

Additional material on catholic history added to page on Clints, including the addition of the 1840/41 particulars for the sale of Clints Hall.

Clickable and zoomable maps have been added – both the current Ordnance Survey map and Historic Ordnance Survey maps from 1911.

Two sub-pages have been added to the “Activities” page covering Angling and Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk.

The method of footnoting references has been overhauled and improved.

The history front pages have been completely re-drafted. New material has been added on the early history of the area, the history of the various manors and estates, on the establishment of transport corridors, and a summary of changes in area from the late twentieth century to the present day.

A short section on racing horse breeding has been added to the “Activities” pages.

Early 2023

The geology and lead mining pages were updated.

Census data from 1841 to 1911 and 1939 were analysed and tabulated. Summary information for the area is included on a new page here. Detailed information is available by contacting Marske Badger here.
