The Three Marske Archbishops

Marske is unusual in having been connected to no less than three Archbishops – two born in Marske, and one who bought Marske! A talk given to Bellerby Study Group in November 2024 tells the tale (see below). The Archbishops were Matthew Hutton Archbishop of York (1529-1606), Matthew Hutton Archbishop of York and Canterbury (1693-1758), and George Errington Co-adjutor Archbishop of Westminster and Archbishop of Trebizon (1804-1886).

The sources for the material in this talk are set out elsewhere on this website. Two principle sources are Hatcher1 and James2.
